• Favorite thing about serving at ROL: Getting to know the people who attend ESL classes and hearing their life stories. Many are heart breaking.

    Last Meal:  Chicken Marsala, Hericots verts amandine, and tiramisu

    Book: “The Pentateuch because Moses is my favorite Biblical character. Also, love the poetic language used in the book of Isaiah which predicts the coming of our Savior. 

    Fiction: Mitford Series -Jan Karon

    Movie: “Random Harvest” Ronald Coleman & Greer Garson (We were not around when it was released in 1942, but saw it for the first time while living in Poland in 1995 on the only English-speaking TV station. 

    Style of Music: 60’s Motown sound

    Song: “You’re Sixteen” Johnny Burnette

    Worship Song: “Jesus, Lover of My Soul” 

    Hymn: “It is Well With My Soul”

    Animal: Any large, long haired dog weighing at least 150lbs, in particular, Newfoundlands, Great Pyrenees and Saint Bernards

    Thing to do on my day off: DAY OFF ~ What’s that? 

    Vacation Destination: North Carolina Mountains with a water view would bean added bonus. 

    Bucket List: Learn to be fluent in another language. 

    Funny Moment: When first moving to Slovakia, we experienced dozens of flies in our bedroom. I contacted our landlord. He came to check out the problem. He did speak a little English, so I rattled o in English with some Polish and Slovak thrown in. Finally, he looked at me quite puzzled and asked: “what kind of animal are we talking about?” 

    What do you love most about River of Life? The honesty and transparency of the members. There is no pretense or facade - so refreshing! 

  • My Story:

    I was born in Montreal, Canada and moved to the United States asa young child, first to Cleveland, Tennessee, and later to South Carolina. At the age of eight, while attending a Friday night revival meeting, I told my parents that I did not feel well. They had the pastor pray for me, but on the way home, my mother said she believed I was under conviction and not sick. They had me pray and I gave my heart to the Lord. I graduated from the University of North Carolina with a biology major. My first job ever was working in medical research at Duke University. After many years, I decided to attend graduate school at Emory University. A job offer from the State Department of Health brought me to Richmond where I met Ernie, my husband of 37 years.
